Put HostTab on your home screen
Two minutes, no app store
HostTab runs in your phone's browser, so there is nothing to download from an app store. Add it to your home screen once and it opens from its own icon like any other app.
In short
- Open app.hosttab.co.ke in your phone's browser and sign in, or start your free trial.
- Android: Chrome's menu, then Add to Home screen (or Install app).
- iPhone: Safari's Share button, then Add to Home Screen.
- From then on, open it from the icon. It fills the screen, works with no signal and keeps you signed in.
On Android, in Chrome
- Open app.hosttab.co.ke in Chrome and sign in.
- Tap the three dots at the top right of Chrome.
- Tap Add to Home screen. On some phones the menu says Install app instead; it does the same.
- Tap Add (or Install). The HostTab icon appears on your home screen.
Chrome may also offer to add it for you, with an Install HostTab bar at the bottom of the screen. Tapping that is the same as the steps above.
On an iPhone, in Safari
- Open app.hosttab.co.ke in Safari and sign in. It has to be Safari: other browsers on an iPhone cannot add it.
- Tap the Share button: the square with an arrow pointing up, at the bottom of the screen.
- Scroll down the list and tap Add to Home Screen.
- Tap Add. The HostTab icon appears on your home screen.
What happens after
- It opens full screen from its own icon, with no address bar, like any other app.
- It works with no signal. HostTab opens from the copy on your phone, keeps what you record and sends it when the signal returns. Signing in for the first time needs a connection.
- You stay signed in. The app asks for your 4-digit quick-unlock PIN after you have been away for a while (2 hours unless you change it) or whenever you tap Lock.
- Updates arrive by themselves. When a new version is out, the app fetches it in the background the next time you open it with signal, and tells you when it is ready.

If it did not work
- On an iPhone, the Share button that adds it is in Safari only. Open the address in Safari itself, not inside WhatsApp or another app.
- Installed HostTab from its old address, hosttab-live.netlify.app? It carries on working there. When it suits you, open app.hosttab.co.ke, sign in, add it to your home screen and remove the old icon. There is nothing to move: your records are online.
